Meyer named Keyano Huskies Athlete of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Men’s Basketball student-athlete Evan Meyer (Oshawa, Ont) has been named the Keyano Huskies Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 8, 2026.
Meyer was a driving force in the Keyano Huskies securing their second Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Basketball Championship in three years.
As part of his three-game run at the tournament, Meyer led all student-athletes in rebounds per game (11.7), field goal percentage (72.7%), and picked up Tournament Most Valuable honours like he did in 2023-24.
“It’s no surprise to us or our team,” Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. “He’s so talented and skilled he a tough match up and he is a big part of our team success.”
Meyer averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks on a per game basis as well. He earned double-doubles in the Huskies’ 100-79 quarter-final and 66-63 semifinal victories.
In Saturday’s 86-79 Championship game victory, Meyer finished two rebounds shy of extending that streak to three games while posting a personal tournament-high 19 points in 35 minutes of action. He also contributed nine assists, four steals, and two blocks throughout the tournament to boost the Huskies.
“He draws so much attention and does a good job of picking spots to score and facilitate,” continued Wielenga.
Meyer concluded the 2025-26 season averaging 14.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
The Huskies will now advance to their third-straight Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Basketball National Championship, March 18-21 in Nanaimo, B.C. at Vancouver Island University.
In their quarter-final on Wednesday, March 18, the Huskies will take on the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Silver Medallist Mohawk College Mountaineers. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm PT/2:00pm MT.
