Schapowal, Desmarais-Joseph named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Volleyball student-athlete Milan Schapowal (Calgary, Alta.) and Men’s Volleyball student-athlete Kaylen Desmarais-Joseph (Winnipeg, Man.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 16, 2025.
Both played big roles on the home court as the Volleyball Huskies picked up three wins out of a possible four to close out the home side of their schedule for the first semester.
Across a weekend split for the Women’s Volleyball Huskies, Schapowal recorded 14 kills, four digs, four service aces, and three blocks.
“She was phenomenal on Friday,” Head Coach Tommy Sloan said. “[She had] some tougher blocking assignments as well; that always puts a bit more stress on the middles and she handled it super well.”
Schapowal recorded 12 kills in Friday’s match against the SAIT Trojans and followed it up with a performance that included four aces Saturday against the Lethbridge Kodiaks.
In her fourth Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season, Schapowal has recorded 248 kills, 78 blocks, 73 digs, and 56 aces. Schapowal is currently enrolled in the Child and Youth Care Diploma Program at Keyano College
As the Men’s Volleyball Huskies earned a weekend sweep of South Division competition, Desmarais-Joseph recorded 13 digs for the Huskies.
“Kaylen is so solid,” Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. “Liberos don’t get the recognition that they ever deserve in my opinion. He’s solid, he’s our captain, he’s our leader on the court.
“The way that he played this weekend was a tipping point. I still think there’s lots more he can do for us, but I just love how consistent and solid he is for us.”
Desmarais-Joseph's 48 digs have him tied with teammate Arthur Silveira for fourth place in the entire conference. The Winnipeg, Man. product is currently enrolled in Keyano College's Elementary Education program.
The Huskies will take to the ACAC’s South Division for their next four games, starting this coming weekend with matches against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers and Briercrest College Clippers Friday and Saturday, respectively.
