Cadieux, Caribou named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women’s Basketball student-athlete Danika Cadieux (Bezanson, Alta.) as well as Men's Basketball student-athlete Keenen Caribou (Pukatawagan, Man.) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The pair stepped up with huge performances for the Huskies at their respective Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championships over the weekend.
In Edmonton, Cadieux stepped into the spotlight by averaging 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game throughout the three-game tournament. Cadieux finished in double digits each day for the Huskies, netting an impressive 24 points in a 55-44 win against the Concordia Thunder Saturday in the consolation semi-final. Her 17.7 points per game ranked fourth among all competing student-athletes at the Championships.
She shot 83.3 percent (10-for-12) on free throws and 41.9% percent (18-for-43) from the field, including seven of the team’s 12 three-point shots in the tournament. The performance earned the second-year shooting guard a selection to the ACAC Tournament All-Star Team.
“For her in her second year, named a tournament all-star, coming off a great year last year and now just finishing up her second year,” Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance said. “[There’s] amazing things for her in the future.”
Caribou had an outstanding weekend for the Men’s Basketball Huskies as they qualified for their second-straight Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championship via their Silver Medal finish.
Across the three games, Caribou averaged 13.7 points per game along with 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steals. His 50.0 percent (three-for-six) shooting from beyond the arc was tied for third-best in the championship while his 59.3 percent (16-for-27) shooting from the field ranked fourth in the championship.
“He’s had a long journey and everything he’s been through it was great to see him play and play well in the biggest moments,” Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. “That’s very positive because we’re not done yet. That’ll be good for us going forward.”
The Men’s Basketball Huskies will compete at the 2025 CCAA Men’s Basketball Championship March 10-15, hosted by Vanier College in Montreal, Que.
