Singh, Stewart named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Soccer student-athlete Harleen Singh (Calgary, Alta.) and Men's Soccer student-athlete Dylan Stewart (Winnipeg, Man.) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 20, 2024.
The pair played key roles for their sides as the Huskies closed out the regular season side of the 2024 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) campaign. Both teams have secured the second-place position in their respective divisions for the 2024 ACAC Soccer Championships, hosted October 25, 2024, by the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves in Grande Prairie, Alta.
“Harleen’s biggest attribute this weekend was that she really wanted to help her team succeed,” Head Coach Tiffany Fontaine said. “Obviously, that’s what makes a great teammate is when it’s more about the team than it is about yourself.
“She ended up getting stats that helped her, but our team really came together with that presence on the field.”
Singh scored four goals and added four assists in Sunday’s 16-0 win over the Portage College Voyageurs in Lac La Biche, Alta. She scored the sixth, seventh, eighth, and 15th goals of the game while assisting on the fifth, ninth, 12th, and 13th goals of the game as well. The performance gave Singh 15 goals and 21 assists for her Keyano Huskies career as well as 32 goals and 35 assists for her entire ACAC career. The Huskies added a 2-1 result against The King’s University Eagles Friday to complete the six-point weekend.
Stewart scored his second goal of the season in Sunday’s 2-1 win against the Voyageurs. With the score tied in the 62nd minute, Stewart sent in a beautiful strike that beat the keeper and stood up as the difference in the match.
“Dylan’s been great the whole year,” Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. “He’s really coming into his own. It’s great to see that he’s being rewarded with some goals as well.
“He just keeps stepping forward and getting better every time.”
The goal was the first game-winning goal of his ACAC career. Stewart now has five goals and five assists in 39 ACAC Regular Season games.
Both Huskies sides begin their journey at the 2024 ACAC Soccer Championships Friday in the opening round against the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks. The Women kick-off at 12:30pm followed by the Men’s match at 3:00pm.
