Twin, Haynes named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Basketball student-athlete Jaylynn Twin (Slave Lake, Alta.) and Men's Basketball student-athlete DJ Haynes (Naples, Florida) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 10, 2024.
The pair played key roles for the Basketball Huskies as the teams won three of four games against South Division competition this past weekend.
Across a weekend split for the Women’s Basketball Huskies, Twin recorded 30 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.
“She’s been the unsung hero,” Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance said. “If you look at her stat line across the last few weeks, she had a few double doubles and again just scoring, just rebounding, being a presence and all the little things that people don’t see through the stat line.
“Again, another good experienced player that’s starting to shine through for us.”
In Friday’s 79-74 loss to the Ambrose Lions, Twin had 20 points to lead all Huskies in scoring. She also contributed eight rebounds and two assists. Saturday, the Huskies emerged with a 61-59 victory against the St. Mary’s University Lightning. In the game, Twin had her second double-double, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds. Twin also added three blocks in the victory.
Haynes was a force for the Men’s Basketball Huskies in their weekend sweep of the Lions and Lightning, collecting 37 points on 14-for-28 (50.0%) shooting from the field, 10 rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and one block.
"DJ set the tone at both ends of the floor," Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. "His leadership and his effort was very important for us Saturday night. It was good to see him show up in a big game."
In Friday's 85-65 win against the Lions, Haynes led all Huskies with 16 points. He had seven of the Huskies 30 points in a crucial third quarter, going a perfect three-for-three from the field, which included his second three-point shot of the game.
Saturday in a 97-66 win against the St. Mary's University Lightning, Haynes had 21 points to finish one behind the team lead in the game. As the Huskies outscored the Lightning 52-25 in the second half, Haynes had 12 points and four rebounds to keep the visiting side ahead.
The Basketball Huskies return to the court on November 22 and 23, hosting the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks and SAIT Trojans at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. Tip-off time for both gamedays is at 6:00pm.
