Men's Volleyball Huskies see strong end to exhibition season
The Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team came within a few points of sweeping their final weekend of exhibition games, but instead settled for three wins and a narrow five-set defeat.
“We were competitive,” noted Head Coach Keegan Kuhr. “We got everyone a chance to play; we won three matches and lost one and obviously that Red Deer match was competitive.
“At the end of the day, going to these tournaments just showed us where we’re at and I really truly believe that we’re on the verge of something special here.”
The Huskies opened their weekend with wins against Olds College and The King’s University followed by a narrow loss to Red Deer Polytechnic and a win over the Providence University College Pilots from Manitoba.
There was also no shortage of players earning Kuhr’s praise for their early-season work, noting how the team was gaining more chemistry with each passing day.
“All in all, it’s a team effort but it was nice to see some of those guys take that next step and the guys that we brought in performed pretty well,” said Kuhr.
In a unique twist to the start of their season, the Huskies won’t be in action until the second weekend of the regular season, taking their talents to Grande Prairie for a pair of games against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.
“It’s just another great opportunity to get more work done,” Kuhr said of the break in action. “We have a lot of things that we need to clean up and NWP will play before us so getting that extra scout in will be huge for us.”
The Keyano Huskies Volleyball teams open their season Friday, October 31 at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre. First serve is scheduled for 6:00pm with the Women’s game taking place first, followed by the Men’s game.
