Men's Basketball Huskies face stiff competition on the road
The Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team had their second venture of the season to the ACAC's South Division this past weekend.
SAIT Trojans 89 Keyano Huskies 61
In a battle of undefeated teams, the SAIT Trojans were too much for the Keyano Huskies in an 89-61 result.
A trio of Huskies finished the game in double-digits, led by 16 points from DJ Haynes. Keenan Miller added 14 and Efosa Omorogbe had 11 points off the bench.
Collectively, the Huskies shot 37.5 percent (24-for-64) from the field, making good on nine three-point shots. Haynes also led the Huskies with eight rebounds, two ahead of teammate Wan Deng. Miller and teammate Tafari Carefoote-Jones tied for the team lead with three assists each.
Lethbridge Kodiaks 109 Keyano Huskies 98
The Keyano Huskies rebounded from Friday's game to shoot 47.8 percent (32-for-67) from the field, but couldn't contain the Kodiaks' offence in the 11-point loss.
Deandre Rowe led the Huskies with 24 points, one ahead of a 23-point performance from Haynes. Omorogbe had 16 while Deng and Sammuel Nkassa each had 11. Carefoote-Jones came close to making it six Huskies in double digits with nine to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Haynes nearly completed the double-double with a team-leading nine rebounds.
After falling behind by seven in the first quarter, the Huskies cut the deficit to one at the half. Down in the fourth, the Huskies struck for 37 points in a high-scoring final quarter for both sides, bringing them within 11 at the end.
Next home games
After a bye week, the Huskies will round out their first half with games against the St. Mary's University Lightning and Ambrose Lions at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre on November 28 and 29. Tip-off is at 8:00pm both nights.
